For companies that have to file UK accounts, there are four general options available:

1. HMRC's PDF-based forms: for very small or simple companies the Revenue's PDF-based forms allow construction of a CT600 return, a set of accounts and a set of computations within a PDF document. This has been designed to cater for only the simplest of cases. Many will find the process cumbersome and poorly suited to their needs.
2. Accounting software: most existing accounts production packages will be updated, to allow constructon of a set of Inline XBRL documents straight from the same software. Companies already using such applications to produce their accounts should not be adversely affected.
3. Outsourcing: there are companies that will take a full set of company accounts and construct them offshore into Inline XBRL format. This may be economically viable for large companies or very large accounting firms, but there remain questions about the security and reliability of such a process.
